Many attribute Reagan's "hard line" against the Soviets to the fall of the USSR. While the deployment of these dangerous weapons to Europe certainly put pressure on the Russian military, government, it bordered on insanity and was certainly swaggering, careless, and dangerous. The fall of Soviet socialism had less to do with American military might than with a desire for materialism and basic life-necessities and luxeries such as hot running water and decent food (during the Cold War the US government never allowed its citizens to understand that the USSR was basically a struggling third world nation).
